Golden Hour Calculator

Find golden hour, blue hour, civil twilight, sunrise and sunset times for any location and date — the light-quality schedule photographers plan shoots around.

About Golden Hour Calculator

Photographers and film crews plan around light, not clock time. This calculator gives the full daily light schedule for any coordinates: golden hour (the warm, low, flattering light when the sun sits between about −4° and +6° of the horizon), blue hour (the deep even glow from about −6° to −4°, just before sunrise and after sunset), civil twilight, and sunrise and sunset themselves.

Golden hour is rarely an hour. Near the equator the sun climbs almost vertically and the window can shrink to twenty minutes; in high summer at northern latitudes it can stretch for hours, and near the poles the sun may never leave the golden band at all — the calculator says so when that happens. Times come from a standard solar-position approximation and are typically within a few minutes; they ignore altitude and terrain, so a mountain ridge or city skyline will move your practical horizon.
